When it comes to stropping the term ‘little and often’ will save you hours on the sharpening stones. By maintaining your edge via stropping it’ll be a rare occurrence that you’ll have to take your blade to a stone.
The leather is a 2-3mm firm veg tan to keep flat bevels true, the backing is 10mm of Oregon Pine wood, a strong but light timber making these strops nice and nimble over a lot of other strops on the market that can feel a bit clunky. The handle is also longer than most meaning you can brace the strop with your hand over a larger length to make maintaining a consistent angle an easier task.
Interesting fact regarding the timber stock used in these strops is that it was originally massive barrels from old Scottish distilleries giving the timber the most wonderful full bodied scent. A simple detail that may appeal to the avid Whiskey lovers out there!
These strops will work perfectly with any decent compound, the personal favourite of ours here at Wilder Ways is Tormek Paste for an all round compound that goes a long way!
